Wine, Laughter and a Day to Remember in Tuscany

There are some travel videos that make you want to visit a destination, and others that make you feel as though you’ve already spent the day there. Tim and Fin manage to do both with this wonderfully entertaining journey through the Tuscan countryside.

Spending a week in Italy’s Chianti region, they set out for a day at Tenuta Torciano, a family-run winery near San Gimignano. What begins as a wine experience quickly becomes much more.

More Than a Wine Tasting

They’re welcomed personally by Pierluigi, a 13th-generation winemaker who describes himself first and foremost as a farmer. His enthusiasm immediately changes the feeling of the visit. Instead of simply moving from one tasting glass to another, Tim and Fin are introduced to the traditions and work behind the wine.

They wander through olive groves and vineyards, explore the cellar, meet the truffle-hunting dogs, search for truffles and even head into the vineyard to pick grapes. Then comes one of those classic Tuscany experiences: climbing into a barrel and stomping grapes the old-fashioned way.

What makes all of this so enjoyable is Tim and Fin themselves. They have a natural ability to talk to the camera as though you’re traveling right alongside them. Their humor and back-and-forth keep the experience lighthearted from beginning to end.

When the Wine Starts Flowing…

Eventually, they sit down beneath a beautiful gazebo for what turns into an impressive Tuscan feast paired with glass after glass of wine. There’s salami, local olive oil and balsamic vinegar, lasagna, pasta, truffle oil, meat, potatoes, dessert—and considerably more wine than they were expecting.

As the tasting continues, things get progressively sillier. By the later glasses, their attempt to turn the wine tasting into musical notes tells you just about everything you need to know.

This is exactly why Sonja and I wanted to feature this video. It isn’t just beautiful Tuscany or great food and wine—it’s fun. Tim and Fin make you feel like you’ve been invited along for the day, and by the end you may find yourself smiling almost as much as they are.

We hope this Tuscan adventure puts as big a smile on your face as it did ours.

Alberta in Winter: A Quieter Side of the Canadian Rockies

There’s something about the Canadian Rockies in winter that completely changes the experience. Snow softens the landscape, frozen lakes replace the brilliant blue water of summer, and the mountains somehow seem even more dramatic. Alison Anderson’s winter journey through Alberta captures that quieter side beautifully, which is one of the reasons we wanted to feature it.

Her trip begins near Calgary with a visit to the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary, where she gets remarkably close to the resident wolfdogs while learning more about them. From there, the journey heads west toward Banff and some of the most spectacular scenery in Alberta.

Winter in Banff and Lake Louise

One of our favorite parts is seeing Lake Louise completely frozen and covered in snow. Alison visits when there are surprisingly few people around—a very different experience from the crowds that can fill this famous destination during peak travel seasons.

Watching her explore Banff brought back some especially wonderful memories for us. Sonja and I spent our honeymoon at the Fairmont Banff Springs, so Banff will always hold a special place in our hearts. We also stayed at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in winter, surrounded by the snow-covered Canadian Rockies. Both were incredible experiences, and seeing Alison travel through these familiar places reminded us just how beautiful Alberta can be at this time of year.

Alison also visits Lake Minnewanka and hikes through Johnston Canyon, where winter transforms the waterfalls into dramatic formations of ice. After dark, she experiences Banff Gondola Nightrise, where light, sound, storytelling, and the mountaintop setting create an entirely different way to experience Banff.

From Canmore to Calgary

The journey continues to Canmore, where Alison stays at the Malcolm Hotel surrounded by mountain scenery, before returning to Calgary.

Calgary provides a fun contrast to the peaceful landscapes of the Rockies. One of the highlights is the striking Calgary Central Library, along with downtown sights such as the enormous Wonderland sculpture.

What we especially enjoyed about Alison’s video is its relaxed pace. She doesn’t simply move from attraction to attraction—she gives you time to enjoy the scenery and feel part of the journey.

For us, this video was also a wonderful reminder of a place filled with some very special memories. And for anyone who thinks of Alberta mainly as a summer destination, Alison’s journey shows just how magical the Canadian Rockies can be when everything is covered in snow.

Discover Germany’s Breathtaking Bavarian Alps

Some travel videos stay with you long after you’ve watched them. For Sonja and me, Flying the Nest’s journey through Germany’s Bavarian Alps is one of those videos.

We first watched it years ago, when we were beginning to discover travel creators on YouTube. The towering mountains, incredibly green countryside and peaceful Alpine scenery immediately grabbed our attention. More importantly, we loved the way Stephen and Jess brought us along for the journey, talking to the camera and sharing what was happening as they experienced it.

That style of storytelling helped turn watching travel videos into our Sunday tradition—and years later, it became part of the inspiration behind Sonja’s Way.

An Unexpected Adventure in the Mountains

Based near Berchtesgaden, their adventure takes an unexpected turn when they set out looking for a small mountain farm for lunch.

The drive leads higher into the mountains until a locked road forces them to leave the car and continue on foot. What begins as a simple lunch stop becomes one of our favorite parts of the video. They hike through spectacular countryside, eventually discovering the farm tucked away in the mountains, where they enjoy hot chocolate overlooking a view that seems almost too beautiful to be real.

It’s exactly the kind of unplanned travel moment that makes their videos so enjoyable. Instead of simply showing you where they went, they make you feel like you’re figuring it out right alongside them.

The Beauty of Königssee

Then comes Königssee, one of the most memorable landscapes in the video.

Surrounded by steep Alpine mountains, the deep mountain lake feels almost hidden from the rest of the world. Stephen and Jess board one of the quiet electric boats and travel across the water toward St. Bartholomä, with its distinctive red-domed church appearing beneath the mountains.

Watching the scenery unfold from the boat is breathtaking—and their genuine reactions make the experience even better.

That combination of beautiful destinations, unexpected discoveries and storytelling is why we chose this video for Featured Travel. It reminds us of what first made us fall in love with discovering the world this way.

The Bavarian Alps are still very much on our list of places we’d love to experience for ourselves. Until then, videos like this let us enjoy a little of that Alpine magic from home.

A New Journey for Amazing Travel Discoveries

Amazing Travel Discoveries is heading in a new direction, and we’re excited to finally start sharing it with you.

For years, Sonja and I have enjoyed sitting down together and watching travel videos from around the world. It has become something we genuinely look forward to. Along the way, we’ve discovered beautiful cities, small towns, incredible landscapes, unusual attractions and places we never even knew existed.

Some are destinations we would love to visit ourselves. Others are places we may never get to see in person—but that doesn’t make discovering them any less enjoyable.

That became the inspiration for the Amazing Travel Discoveries.

Rather than making this website about us traveling the world, we want it to be about discovering the world. We’ll be finding interesting destinations, experiences and places that we think are worth sharing and pairing them with some of the great travel videos we discover along the way.

The videos you’ll see on Amazing Travel Discoveries are created by talented travel creators who have actually visited these places. We’ll add our own information, observations and resources to help you learn a little more about each destination and decide whether it’s somewhere you might want to explore further.

And you certainly don’t need to be planning a trip to enjoy Amazing Travel Discoveries.

That’s an important part of what we want this website to be. Sometimes it’s simply enjoyable to sit back, relax and experience another part of the world from your own home. A great travel video can take you through the streets of a European village, across an incredible landscape, into a historic city or somewhere completely unexpected.

We’ll also occasionally share travel ideas, seasonal events, interesting experiences and some of our own thoughts and recommendations.

Most of all, Amazing Travel Discoveries is about discovery.

So whether you’re looking for ideas for a future trip or simply want to spend a little time seeing someplace new, we hope you’ll come along with us.

There’s a lot of the world left to discover.
